This itinerary invites you to live the essence of Sri Lanka’s countryside and heritage through an unforgettable blend of activities and interactions.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Airport Arrival – Negombo – Madampella
Upon arrival, explore Negombo’s fishing village, bustling with life in the early morning. Journey to Madampella village for a warm welcome and settle into your tented cabanas. Enjoy a local rice and curry meal, relax, and engage with your host family.
Day 2: Madampella Village Exploration – Bandaragama
Start your day with a cycling tour, discovering Madampella’s coconut cultivation, tile manufacturing, and pineapple farms. After a traditional cooking session, savor a village lunch. Continue to a serene villa by a lake in Bandaragama, where you can unwind or enjoy a kayaking adventure.
Day 3: Village Life and Activities in Bandaragama
Immerse yourself in traditional village crafts such as mask carving, cinnamon processing, and basket weaving. Enjoy lunch at a local farmer’s home and an evening cultural show (for groups of 8+), followed by dinner at your villa.
Day 4: Bandaragama – Kalutara – Pitigala – Galle
Travel to Galle, stopping at Kalutara Temple and an organic tea plantation. Upon arrival in Galle, visit the Old Dutch Fort before settling into your hotel for the night.
Day 5: Galle to Tangalle
Travel the scenic coast, stopping to admire stilt fishermen and beaches. Take a sea bath at Polhena, known for its resident sea turtles. In Tangalle, relax or watch sea turtles nest at night (seasonal).
Day 6: Tangalle – Tissamaharama
Head to Tissamaharama, known for its agricultural life. Visit pottery artisans, blacksmiths, and Kataragama Temple to experience the rituals of the evening Pooja ceremony.
Day 7: Tissamaharama Local Life
Engage with local life through activities like toddy tapping, curd making, and vegetable shopping for a traditional cooking session. Later, enjoy a village BBQ and music with the locals (for groups of 8+).
Day 8: Tissamaharama – Galoya
Start with an optional Yala Safari, then travel to Galoya. After arrival, embark on a 4×4 safari in the lesser-known Galoya National Park.
Day 9: Galoya – Elephant Sighting – Aborigine Village
Take a boat ride at Iginiyagala to watch elephants swim and bathe. Visit a nearby aborigine village in the afternoon to learn about traditional customs.
Day 10: Galoya – Bandarawela via Ella
Stop in Ella to see basket weaving, Ravana Ella Falls, and hike Little Adam’s Peak. End the day at a homestay in Bandarawela, where you’ll be welcomed by a local family.
Day 11: Bandarawela – Lipton’s Seat by Tuk-Tuk
Hop on a tuk-tuk and explore tea plantations, farms, and villages, ending at Lipton’s Seat for panoramic views. Later, prepare dinner with your host family.
Day 12: Bandarawela – Ramboda by Train
Take a scenic train journey to Nuwara Eliya, with stops to explore tea plantations and waterfalls. Settle into your eco-friendly lodge by waterfalls in Ramboda.
Day 13: Ramboda Village Life – Kandy
Walk through village fields and spice plantations, connecting with local farmers. Visit a tea factory before arriving in Kandy for an evening of Kandyan dance.
Day 14: Kandy – Temple of the Tooth – Dambulla – Giritale
Attend the morning Pooja at the Temple of the Tooth. Visit spice gardens and Dambulla Cave Temple en route to Giritale, where you’ll stay in a peaceful hotel.
Day 15: Polonnaruwa Exploration
Explore Polonnaruwa by tuk-tuk or cycle, followed by a village lunch. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon back at the hotel, with a BBQ dinner if you’re in a group of 8+.
Day 16: Sigiriya Lion Rock – Chena Cultivation
Climb Sigiriya’s Lion Rock and visit chena cultivation farms to learn about local agriculture and prepare a traditional meal.
Day 17: Pidurangala – Trincomalee by Local Bus
Hike Pidurangala Rock at sunrise before journeying to Trincomalee on a local bus for an immersive travel experience.
Day 18 & 19: Trincomalee Relaxation
Relax on the beach or explore Trincomalee’s attractions like Koneshwaram Temple, or enjoy optional activities such as whale watching or deep-sea fishing.
Day 20: Departure
