Known by various names such as Serendib, Thaprobane, Pearl of the Indian Ocean, and A Land Like No Other, Sri Lanka fulfills every nature enthusiast’s desires. This travel plan focuses on immersing you in the island’s wildlife, natural beauty, local experiences, and adventurous activities, including hiking. Historical monuments are not part of this itinerary, ensuring that nature remains the centerpiece of your journey. Customize your tour as per your preferences with prior request.

Travel Itinerary in Brief

Upon your arrival, a Horizon Voyages representative will welcome you. If your flight lands in the morning, you will visit the Negombo fishing village, which is bustling with local life during the morning hours. This experience offers an authentic glimpse into Sri Lankan coastal traditions. Afterward, you will arrive at your hotel and check into your room. Optional: in the evening, enjoy a relaxing boat ride, either in the Negombo Lagoon or a catamaran ride in the sea, depending on the weather and your preference. End the day with an overnight stay at your hotel.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will embark on a journey to Galle via Colombo along the scenic coastal road. During this drive, you will witness the vibrant local life in various regions. A brief sightseeing tour in Colombo will give you a sense of the capital’s charm. On this day, you will visit several attractions, including the Kalutara Temple, the Endangered Sea Turtle Protection Center, a boat ride across the endangered mangrove flora and fauna, and the Kande Vihara Temple. Upon arriving in Galle, you will explore the Galle Heritage City and the Old Dutch Fort before checking into your hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will proceed to Tissamaharama, with several fascinating stops along the way. You will witness the unique sight of stilt fishermen in the Koggala to Ahangama regions, a traditional fishing method that is gradually fading away. The journey also showcases the scenic beauty of palm-fringed beaches. At Polhena, you may even have the chance to swim alongside sea turtles. En route, visit Ridiyagama Safari Park or Hambantota Birds Park before arriving at your hotel in Tissamaharama. After settling into your room, in the evening you have possibility to visit the Katharagama Temple, dedicated to God Skanda, to engage with the local community and witness traditional rituals. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at your hotel.

Begin your day with an early breakfast or a picnic breakfast and set off for a full-day safari in Yala National Park. This adventure will take you deep into the wilderness from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a midday break for lunch. During the safari, you will explore the park’s diverse fauna, including elephants, deer, sambars, wild boars, wild buffaloes, monkeys, crocodiles, leopards, bears, and an array of bird species. Your experience will be enhanced by a knowledgeable jeep driver and guide. After a day of thrilling wildlife encounters, you will be treated to a refreshing cocktail outside the park before heading back to your hotel for the night.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your lodge before starting a day filled with local activities and exploration. You will visit a toddy tapper to learn about their unique trade, approach a family engaged in cadjun leaves weaving, and explore a fishing port. The day also includes visits to a village bakery, a market showcasing local products, and a lake where you can try fishing. Engage in a traditional meal preparation session in a village house and witness the art of curd making with buffalo milk. Other highlights include artisanal pottery manufacturing and a visit to a blacksmith. The day ends with a get-together party featuring traditional village music, provided you are part of a group of six or more.

After breakfast, embark on a journey to Badulla, stopping to admire the natural beauty of Dunhinda and Ravana waterfalls. With the guidance of a local helper, you can climb to the upper Diyaluma and take in the breathtaking surroundings. A local rice and curry meal will be served before proceeding to Badulla. Upon arrival, check into a nature resort nestled amidst lush greenery, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Spend a leisurely day in Badulla. After a relaxed breakfast, you can soak in the floral beauty of the enchanting surroundings. Visit the iconic Dunhinda Waterfall and immerse yourself in the serenity of this picturesque region. Overnight stay will be at your nature resort.

After breakfast, take a scenic train ride from Badulla to Ella, passing over the famous Demodara Nine-Arched Bridge. In Ella, explore the quaint village and its highlights, including a closer look at the Nine-Arched Bridge. For those seeking adventure, consider a zipline experience followed by leisure time at the Ravana Pool Club. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at your hotel.

Start your day with an early breakfast before embarking on a five-to-six-hour trek through diverse landscapes, culminating at Bambarakanda, Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall. Enjoy a refreshing dip in a natural pool and a village-style lunch. The trek also includes an exploration of Ravana Cave. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Following breakfast, begin your exploration of local villages and tea plantations with a tuk-tuk ride. Walk through tea plantations and visit Lipton Seat, known for its stunning views. After a picnic lunch, return to Ella and climb Ravana Rock for a panoramic view of the region. Overnight stay will be at your hotel.

After breakfast, board a train from Ella to Nanuoya, regarded as one of the world’s most scenic train journeys. Upon arrival, your chauffeur will take you to Kandy, stopping at a tea factory along the way to learn about the tea-making process. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic before proceeding to your ecolodge in Digana for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, head to the Knuckles region for a day of trekking. Equipped with necessary gear, you will explore the region’s seven waterfalls and possibly hike to the peak, guided by a local naturalist. Overnight stay will be at a campsite.

Begin your day with breakfast at the campsite before continuing your exploration of the Knuckles region, focusing on its rich flora, streams, and villages. Later, proceed to Colombo for a comfortable overnight stay in  hotel, preparing for your departure the next day.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may relax or embark on a rapid sightseeing tour of Colombo. A snack or dinner will be served before heading to the airport. Horizon Voyages will assist with formalities as you bid farewell to Sri Lanka.
